Buckinghamshire Mind is incredibly grateful to Chesham-based ultrarunner James Croft, who is taking on a unique challenge to raise vital funds for our mental health services.
On Sunday 28th May, James will challenge himself to run the fastest known time (FKT) along the Chilterns 3 Peaks in aid of Bucks Mind.
The 57km (35.4 miles) route, from Princes Risborough to Ivinghoe Beacon and back, will take in three iconic hills in the local area: Whiteleaf Hill, Coombe Hill, and Ivinghoe Beacon. Normally hiked one way, the route takes 5-6 hours. James aims to cover double the distance in a similar time, recording his effort on the official Fastest Known Time website for others to take on the challenge in the future.
If that wasn’t enough, he will create three pieces of artwork along the way, from the top of each peak, to commemorate the challenge and capture his emotions. These will be auctioned to raise further donations.
The challenge will be a unique test of physical endurance and mental resilience.
“This challenge, whilst personal, champions a bigger message about the benefits of the outdoors and creativity for people’s mental health that I want to inspire others with,” says James.
Having dealt with his own struggles with anxiety and depression over the last few years, James relocated to the Chilterns in 2022. This has been a lifeline for him to get outside and embrace an active lifestyle, while also fuelling his creative projects. James hopes he will inspire others to follow in his footsteps.
What can you do?
- Donate via his Just Giving page to support Bucks Mind.
- Support on the day – all the support he can get will spur him on to success.
- Run your own three local peaks – no molehill or mountain is too big or small, just pick three points of elevation in your local area to experience your own runners high. Share your own adventures with #C3PChallenge
Thank you so much to James from everyone at Bucks Mind. We will be cheering you on!
