Who is this course most suitable for?
Charity, community or public sector employees and volunteers who come into contact, or are likely to come into contact, with young people aged 8-18 in the local community who are experiencing poor mental health.
This course is great if you regularly have conversations about mental health with young people in your role and want to learn how to support them better.
What will I learn?
This course will give you the the knowledge, awareness, and skills to spot signs of a young person experiencing poor mental health, and the confidence to start a conversation and signpost to appropriate support.
As a Youth MHFAider® you will gain:
- A deeper understanding of mental health and the risk factors associated with poor mental health in young people
- Confidence in how to apply the Youth MHFA action plan (ALGEE®) in a Youth Mental Health First Aid conversation
- An understanding of the Youth MHFAider® role
- Three years of access to the MHFAider Support App® with 24/7 digital support
- In addition to the course, you will become part of the largest dedicated community of Mental Health First Aiders in England, the Association of Mental Health First Aiders, gaining access to resources, ongoing learning, and 24/7 digital support, to give you the tools and knowledge you need to carry out the role effectively and confidently
