Who is this course most suitable for?
Charity, community or public sector employees and volunteers who come into contact, or are likely to come into contact, with adults in the local community who are experiencing thoughts of suicide.
This course is great if you want to practice the skills needed to effectively intervene in situations where someone may be contemplating suicide.
What will I learn?
As a Suicide First Aider you will gain:
- Insights into the complex factors that can lead to thoughts of suicide and suicide behaviours, including mental health issues, emotional distress, and societal pressures
- Skills to be able to identify the verbal, behavioural, and situational indicators that someone may be thinking of suicide
- Skills to engage in sensitive and supportive conversations, helping to de-escalate crises and offer hope to those in need
- Practical tools and approaches for providing immediate support, including how to refer individuals to mental health professionals and other resources.
- An understanding of the ethical responsibilities involved in suicide prevention, including confidentiality, consent, and the importance of self-care

Once you complete this course, you can go on to gain the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) Level 4 Award in Suicide First Aid® by completing a written assignment. This is completely optional and comes with a £95 fee which you would need to cover yourself.
