Please sign Mind’s petition to reform the Mental Health Act.
The Mental Health Act turns 40 this week. The Mental Health Act is the law in England and Wales, which says when you can receive mental health treatment against your will. The Act desperately needs updating. People detained under the Act don’t have enough say in their treatment. They can’t choose the treatment that works for them, and the Act doesn’t provide a way to appeal treatment decisions.
In June, Mind launched the Raise the Standard campaign, which calls on the UK government to fix the failings in mental health hospitals across England.
On 6 July, Mind brought the campaign to MPs by running a parliamentary drop-in event, where decision-makers met people with lived experience and heard about what they can do to support the campaign.
Following the launch of Raise the Standard, we’ve already seen the UK government take action and launch an investigation into mental health hospitals. But they need to go further. That’s why Mind has launched the next phase of the campaign, a petition calling on the UK government to pass the Mental Health Bill before the next general election.
Please help put pressure on the UK government by signing the petition.
