Buckinghamshire Mind believe Black Lives Matter and black mental health matters. National Mind have publicly shared their support for the Black Lives Matter movement, and as a local Mind organisation we support this movement for change – both in our wider communities, but also in our own organisation.
As part of our commitment towards this movement, Buckinghamshire Mind will be contributing towards a discussion about unconscious bias on 3rd September at 7.30pm.
In a 1.5 hour Zoom session, Rachel Dineley, a former leading discrimination lawyer and now the Diversity Officer at Chiltern Liberal Democrats, will host a presentation on what underlies unconscious bias, how to recognise it, guard against it, and respond when encountering it.
What is unconscious bias? Why does is arise? When does it influence behaviour and decision-making? How can we tackle it? Is it always a bad thing? What support is available to those adversely affected? All these questions will be discussed at the Zoom session.
In addition to a Q&A session, participants will have the opportunity to share experience and discuss the practicalities of dealing with unconscious bias.
Buckinghamshire Mind’s Sophia Hobbs and Joanna Brennan will contribute, with suggestions on coping strategies, for those affected by the impact of discrimination.
Places are free for local residents and are offered on a first come first served basis, but limited by Zoom capacity.
