Article published on: Tuesday, 11 July 2017

Can you help us achieve our vision of ensuring that everyone in Buckinghamshire who is experiencing a mental health problem gets both support and respect?

For over 100 years, Buckinghamshire Mind has been a trusted, independent charity working to support and represent people with mental health problems living across the county by providing high quality services. As with all local Minds, we are affiliated to national Mind but are a separately registered charity with our own Board and we are responsible for our own income generation.

Our services find positive ways to make people feel valued and live well. We support our service users to live safe, purposeful and fulfilled lives in their communities. We believe in their recovery and we are hopeful about their future.

In 2016, Buckinghamshire Mind published an ambitious three-year plan, A Strategic Blueprint for the Future 2016-2019. We are now looking to recruit additional Trustees onto our Board to support the delivery of this plan and help shape the charity’s future.

We are seeking candidates with the commitment, experience and professional networks to promote and support the vital work of Buckinghamshire Mind as we aim to achieve the ambitious objectives laid out in our strategic plan.

You will need to have an understanding of mental problems – perhaps through lived experience – and a demonstrable commitment to the charity’s mission:

To deliver high quality community based services across the county of Buckinghamshire, to reach out and ensure everyone with a mental health problem gets access to the help they need.

We are particularly looking for candidates with skills and experience in the following areas:

Buckinghamshire Mind is run by local people for local people and is responsible for its own funding and the services it provides. We bring focused mental health expertise to our partnerships and services. We value working in partnership. In Buckinghamshire, we know that bringing together different perspectives can help identify solutions to complex problems. We support people in Buckinghamshire so they can be open about who they are, without worrying about discrimination, knowing they will be accepted.

The role of a Buckinghamshire Mind Trustee can be a very fulfilling experience. While unremunerated, all reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed. Trustee meetings are held every three months, usually in Aylesbury and take place during normal working hours. Typically, they last three hours. There are also two sub-committees that Trustees are asked to join, which also meet quarterly. There is an expectation that Trustees will play an active and visible role in the organisation and will join additional events, conferences and training sessions throughout the course of the year. This is an excellent opportunity to give something back to the local community.

If you would like to apply, please email your CV and supporting statement, clearly outlining why you are interested in being a Buckinghamshire Mind Trustee and details of your relevant skills and experience, to Andrea McCubbin, Chief Executive, at [email protected] or by post to 260 Desborough Road, High Wycombe, Bucks, HP11 2QR. Selected candidates will be called for an interview with the Vice Chair, Chief Executive and a service user. References will be taken up and any appointment will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check.

Application deadline: 31st August 2017
