Buckinghamshire Mind and Mind in Berkshire practice what we preach – and embarked on World Mental Health Day themed mission.

We conducted a mental health in the workplace survey, of which 36 of our colleagues engaged. On WMHD, we will come together to discuss the survey outcomes and look at ways of continuing to improve our mental health in the workplace.

Just some of the positive comments were:

  • I’m so grateful to have an approachable, understanding Manager. It makes all the difference in the work place. She is a great support and as long as she’s here I’m staying. She’s an asset to this organisation.
  • I feel appreciated here at Bucks Mind, manager and colleague support is excellent.
  • I feel that my manager and other management is extremely supportive in every way. The main factor that influences my mental health is my confidence and self esteem even when I get high praise for my work, almost Imposter Syndrome, something that I am working on.
  • I try to be as supportive as I can to the staff that I manage, as my manager is to me. My experience is that staff who feel supported enjoy their work more, are more productive and more likely to stay at BM.
  • Overall I feel well supported in my role.
  • Over the last couple of years there has been a noticeable shift in culture regarding employee wellbeing. The senior management team have focused on fostering a happier working environment making a positive change. Creating a staff relaxation space at HW, sadly hasn’t drawn as many staff back to premises working, which would foster even closer colleague relationships.
  • Mental health is valued in the workplace and I think everyone is mindful of it.

Did you know we are a Mindful Employer? This means that we have signed a Charter, and we commit to:

  • Provide non-judgemental and proactive support to staff with experience of mental ill-health.
  • Avoid making assumptions about a person with a mental health condition and their ability to work.
  • Be positive and enabling toward all employees and applicants with a mental health condition.
  • Support line managers in managing mental health in the workplace.
  • Ensure the fair recruitment of staff in accordance with the Equality Act (2010).
  • Make it clear that people who have experience of mental ill-health will not be discriminated against.
